Dr. Kail saved my life!   
Pretty strong words, but they’re true.

In late August, 2002 I was at Premier Dental for my regular check-up. After my hygienist cleaned my teeth, Dr. Kail came in to perform his exam,which is very thorough. As he was inspecting my
tongue, Dr. Kail asked me about the “places” on the right side of my tongue. I knew my tongue had been tender in that area but I thought I had just bitten the side of my tongue. Dr. Kail re-examined my tongue and didn’t like what he saw. His recommendation was that I see an oral surgeon pronto.

After my oral surgeon took biopsy samples and sent them to the UT Dental School in Memphis,
He gave me the news - malignant squamous cell carcinoma and it has to come out.
He recommended surgery ASAP, advising me that this type of cancer is usually fatal within
12 months and we didn’t really know how long that it had been with me!  So, during the Labor Day holiday weekend of 2002, a sizeable portion of my tongue was removed. My greatest blessing
came when I was told that I would not need chemotherapy, radiation or speech therapy!
I now tell people that if their dentist doesn’t do a Complete exam of their mouth, tongue and jaws,
They need to tell the dentist what they want – it could save your life.
