Invisalign® for the Correction of Overbite
By Steven Kail on November 06, 2017
What do you know about Invisalign®? You probably know that Invisalign® aligners are made of a clear plastic that makes them virtually undetectable to others when they’re worn in the mouth. You might also know that they’re removable so that they don’t interfere with eating, brushing, or flossing, unlike traditional metal braces. Perhaps you even know that the aligners are custom-crafted from completely non-abrasive materials so that they won’t cut or scrape the inside of the mouth, again quite unlike traditional metal braces. If these were the only benefits Invisalign® had to offer, we at Premier Dental Center would still be extremely proud to provide this exceptional technology to our patients.
However, what many people don’t realize about Invisalign® is that the system is nearly as versatile as traditional metal braces in terms of the orthodontic issues it can address. Indeed, Invisalign® can be used to treat a diverse range of issues in approximately the same amount of time as, and often even less time than, wire-and-bracket braces. Among the orthodontic issues that can be effectively treated with Invisalign® is overbite.
In discussing Invisalign® for overbite during consultations at their Jackson, TN practice, our dentists carefully evaluate patients to make sure that they are appropriate candidates for treatment. Once our dentists are convinced that patients will be able to achieve the best possible results with Invisalign®, they take impressions of the patients’ teeth and have a series of custom aligners crafted that will gently guide their teeth into their optimal positions. Patients emerge with their overbites corrected and their teeth straight and healthy.
Is your smile affected by an overbite? Do you want to do something about it? If so, please schedule your initial consultation at Premier Dental Center today.
How Does Invisalign® Correct Overbite?
Invisalign® is clinically proven to be effective at correcting overbite, the condition in which the front teeth in the upper jaw overlap the front teeth in the lower jaw. In most cases, patients with overbites are considered good candidates for treatment with Invisalign®. If you are deemed a good candidate, our dentists will create a 3-d digital image of your teeth and a mold of your mouth. These will both be sent to a certified Invisalign® laboratory, where a series of aligners will be custom-crafted from a BPA-free plastic.
You will return to our practice to retrieve your aligners once they have been fabricated and returned to us. You will wear each set of aligners for approximately two weeks. Then, you will switch out that set for the next set in the series. Each set is shaped slightly differently so that your teeth will be guided gradually but steadily closer toward their ideal positions in your mouth. As long as you wear your aligners for at least 20 to 22 hours a day, removing them only for brushing, flossing, and eating, you should achieve correction of your overbite in the prescribed treatment time, which is usually about a year.
